Well it took seven days of poker for a couple of players to pull ahead of the pack at the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event: Joseph Cheong, 24,490,000, and Cong Nguyen 23,100,000, have both shot out to sizeable leads over the remainder of the field. The next closest player is 2010 bracelet winner Pascal LeFrancois with 15,780,000.
One player who rocketed up the leader-board on Day 7 was online poker pro Jason Senti, who started the day in 70th out of 78th place with just 970,000 chips, but managed to finish the day with a healthy stack of 13,550,000; good enough for 4th place. Some of the other big names still in the field are two-time bracelet winner Scott Clements, David Baker, Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi, Adam “Roothlus” Levy, William Thorson, Johnny Loddem, and Hasan Habib.
One notable absence is Theo Jorgensen who went into Day 7 with the chip-lead but fell victim to the AQ vs. AK hand. With all the chips in the middle on an A-X-X flop with three clubs, John Racener showed AQ, with a club, and Jorgensen AK. Racener spiked a Queen on the turn which sealed Jorgensen’s fate. Other notable eliminations on Day 7 included: Jean-Robert Bellande, David Benyamine, Peter Jetten, Tony Dunst and Alexander Kostritsyn.
Most of the big names finished the day somewhere in the middle of the pack, but as Senti proved yesterday, anything is possible in a poker tournament; one player who will attempt the same feat during Day 8 will be Hasan Habib, who somehow managed to nurse an extremely short-stack throughout Day 7, and squeak into Day 8. The final 27 players and their chip stacks will be:
