There are literally hundreds of poker books available to the avid poker player. These poker books will teach you all about choosing your starting hands, poker strategy, playing marginal hands, and playing tournaments. It’s great information for new and experienced players to have. These poker books will help you think logically about poker and improve your overall game─ and these poker books are utterly worthless for Sit ‘N Goes.
Sit ‘N Goes are a different kind of poker. When you play a Sit ‘N Go, you’ll throw away hands that you’d happily play in a cash game or even a multi-table tournament. You’ll also go all-in pre-flop with cards that you’d instantly fold in a cash game. It’s almost like Sit ‘N Goes are in a parallel dimension where the rules of profitable poker no longer apply. If you want to be a successful Sit ‘N Go player, you have to re-learn how to play─ and Colin Moshman will teach you.
Colin Mosham is a professional Sit ‘N Go player who started playing the $6 online Sit ‘N Goes and worked his way up to playing the $215 Sit ‘N Goes. He’s an excellent player with a background in theoretical mathematics. In 2007, Moshman decided that his superior Sit ‘N Go knowledge was too great for one man to posses, so he decided to sell it to anyone with a love for poker and $30.
In the year or so that Colin Moshman’s book Sit ‘N Go Strategy has been out, it’s quickly become the guide to playing Sit ‘N Goes. Moshman acknowledges that Sit ‘N Goes require a different kind strategy than cash tables and multi-table tournaments, so he created a guide that deals specifically with SNG’s. In doing so, Colin Moshman has come to be the Dan Harrington of Sit ‘N Goes.
Colin’s recommended style could be characterized as tight-aggressive in the low blinds and insanely aggressive in the high blinds. It takes some chutzpah to play the aggressive kind of poker that Moshman recommends, but those who can overcome their fears will make a lot of money. Players who follow Moshman’s advice will find themselves shoving 5-2 off suit in an attempt to adhere to Colin’s guiding maxim: “Never allow yourself to get blinded out.”
Colin does a great job of describing how your strategy will evolve as the blinds increase. The information in the third part of the book─ high blind play─ is nothing less than genius. The advice in this chapter alone raised my Sit ‘N Go return-on-investment by 8%.
This book, however, is not for beginners. You need to have a basic knowledge of poker probabilities and how to play winning Texas Hold’em in order to understand the advanced techniques in this book. Beginners should read David Sklansky’s book The Theory of Poker before attempting to read Sit ‘N Go Strategy.
Sit ‘N Go Strategy by Colin Moshman is a must-read book for anyone who plays Sit ‘N Goes. The information in this book generalizes well from low to high limit poker and will certainly put more money in your pocket.
