Jeff Madsen, perhaps best known for his back-to-back World Series of Poker wins in 2006, was able to capture the Borgata Winter Poker Open title after besting a pretty stacked final table that included Tom “KINGOFCARDS” Marchese and Matt Matros. The win was worth over $600k and was Jeff’s biggest win since 2006, when he won two bracelets and pocketed over $600k for each win.
After bursting onto the poker scene with those back-to-back WSOP bracelets, Madsen hasn’t been able to duplicate that type of success in a major tournament until yesterday’s win. Off to a terrific start in 2010, Madsen is fresh off a strong showing at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure where he made a deep-run before bowing out in 19th place, and made two final tables at the 2009 Doyle Brunson Classic in December; Madsen had three cashes overall. Madsen is no stranger to heaters, since it could be argued that he had the greatest month in tournament history during the 2006 WSOP: From July 3rd to the 24th Madsen won two events, and finished 3rd in two others! In the process he was able to rake in nearly $1.5 million in those few weeks, and the run put the then 21 year-old on the poker radar.
With the run Madsen has put together over the last 2+ months this could be very well be the year that Jeff moves out of the crowded up-and-comer category –that is filled with a plethora of young talented players– and into the realm of a seasoned poker professional -a much more exclusive club. Typically it takes consistent results year after year -which Madsen has been able to put together-and half a dozen major titles to be considered one of the elites of the game.
The 24 year-old Madsen is a prolific tournament player, and can often be found playing in the daily tournaments in Las Vegas as well as hitting the tournament trail that takes him around the globe. Madsen’s career tournament earnings are now in excess of $3 million, with numerous 6-figure paydays.
Madsen is also one of the more popular poker players, evidenced by his large following on his FaceBook page, Twitter account (JeffMadsenobv), and his personal websiteJeffMadsenPoker.com. Madsen’s followers are entertained with his poker updates -usually in-tournament-along with the funny, quirky, insights that 24 year-olds are notorious for!
Jeff is a sponsored player at Full Tilt Poker and represents the site at tournaments around the world, as well as hitting the online tables at Full Tilt quite often -Madsen plays under the name Jeff Madsen and is a red pro on the site.
