November 9 – Craig Marquis

Another young Internet player, Craig Marquis got hooked on the game when hanging out with friends like Tom “durrrr” Dwan. After seeing that Dwan was able to afford quite the lavish lifestyle playing poker online, Marquis decided that he was at least as smart as Dwan and could beat the game, too. That move has proven very fruitful as he’s now poised to take down one the largest single pots in the history of the game at this years WSOP Main Event Final Table, taking place tomorrow in Las Vegas.

Starting out grinding 2/4 Limit Poker matches online, it’s clear that Marquis has come a long way from his roots. While he is far more attracted to the larger cash games such as 200/400 No Limit Hold’em, he’s developed quite the finesse at cashing in major live WSOP events, having cashed in the top 35 four times.

Recently, it’s been interesting to see Marquis and his take on the actions of another featured player that didn’t make the final table, Tiffany Michelle. If you’re one of the 5 people that didn’t see or read about her outrageous actions, she essentially made a fool of herself with rude behavior at the table. She even called the clock on a player who had to make a critical decision for his tournament life with 9 million dollars potentially at stake. She took a stab at redemption on the popular Two Plus Two forums and Marquis was quick to point out that her words were hollow as he so tactfully stated:

“Yeah. This is all well and good after the fact, but you were extremely disrespectful and unbelievably rude while we were playing in just about every situation you could be. I feel like those 7 edited episodes accurately depicted your behavior during the tournament, and you can say it was “your table face” or whatever, but your calling the clock during the Paul Snead and Scott Montgomery hand in what is probably the most stressful situation the man has ever been just boggles my mind. Also this is coming from somebody who is judging you entirely on his personal experience with you, not from the any media-skewed perspective.”

If Craig is able to maintain his composure as he’s done so far in the WSOP coverage as well as the tact he demonstrated in his reply to Tiffany above then he’s very likely to go very deep during tomorrows final table.
