Snow, skis, and poker return to Tahoe

As the snow begins to blanket the mountaintops in Tahoe, the World Series of Poker rides into town with the latest stop on the circuit. Perhaps this will be the shot in the arm that Tahoe needs as gaming revenues dipped this past month due to the ailing economy.

Starting this Friday, the event is set to run up the final, which will conclude on November 16th. There’s actually a casino employee event that starts on Thursday but of course, is essentially a private event that regular players can’t enter. With a series of smaller events and a ramped up advertising schedule, the WSOP and executives from host hotel Harveys Resort Casino and Spa are hoping for a big turnout.

Even if the smaller events attract a limited crowd, expectations are high for attendance in the Main Event. Defending champ Chris Ferguson will return along with other major players such as Daniel Negreanu to battle it out in the $5,000 final event.  Considering the fact that much of the poker world will be winding down from watching the final table for the WSOP Main Event, which will be played out on November 9th, they may just take the short trip north to Tahoe to play in this event.

That’s exactly what the WSOP had in mind when setting the 2008 North American schedule. After a great run during the World Series of Poker Europe events, they are definitely looking to repeat that success with this event. Now the election is complete and the economy seems to be slowly coming back to life, the action will follow at this years WSOP Tahoe stop!
