The march to the 2012 Player of the Year awards is underway

With the 2012 PokerStars PCA and the 2012 Aussie Millions now in the books it’s time to take a look at the Player of the Year leader-boards for 2012. While you may think it’s fairly early (with just 1/12 of the 2012 tournament season over) because of the two major championships that take place in January, the POY leader-boards tend to stay pretty stagnant until the WPT Championship and World Series of Poker in May and June.

Once again we will be following the Card Player Magazine Player of the Year leader-board as well as the BLUFF Magazine Player of the Year leader-board, but this year we will also keep an eye on the Global Poker Index. Unlike the Player of the Year races, the GPI tracks a player’s results over the past 36-month period. So, even though the GPI is not 2012 specific, and doesn’t offer an end-of-year-award, it does shed some light on how the current POY candidates stack-up with their peers.
