With 6 events going on day 5 at the 2010 World Series of Poker it was an action packed day. We saw two new champions crowned, the $1k NLHE final table set, and the pros dominate 2-7 Triple Draw and the NLHE Shootout events.

Event #2: $50k Players Championship

Well, this very exciting event is now in the books with the fairy-tale ending coming true: Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi won the $1.56 million prize! Perhaps the only way the ending could have played out better would have been if Mike’s Brother Robert finished 2nd instead of 5th!

The final table standings were:

  • Mike Mizrachi –$1,559,046
  • Vladimir Schmelev –$963,375
  • David Oppenheim –$603,348
  • John Juanda –$436,865
  • Robert Mizrachi –$341,429
  • David Baker –$272,275
  • Daniel Alaei –$221,105
  • Mikael Thuritz –$182,463
  • Nick Schulman –$152,730
  • Alexander Kostritsyn –$152,730
  • Event #3: $1k NLHE

The final table for the first of five $1k NLHE tournaments at the 2010 WSOP is now set with Canadian Aadam Daya leading the way. The 9 finalists had to battle their way through over 4,336 other players to reach this point, and will be rewarded with a minimum of $50k –first place will walk away with $625k!

Event #4: $1,500 Omaha 8 or better

In a classic heads-up battle that you’ll only see in a split pot game Michael Chow was able to deny Dan Heimiller his second WSOP bracelet in the wee hours of the morning. Heimiller wasn’t the only big name in contention for the title, as 2008 WSOP Main Event 4th place finisher Ylon Schwartz bowed out in third place.

Chow’s win gave the Honolulu native his first WSOP bracelet along with the $237k in prize money.

Event #5: $1,500 NLHE

The story of Event #5 is Englishman Praz Bansi who is looking for his second WSOP bracelet. With 23 players remaining Bansi is sitting in 5th place, and is the most experienced and successful player left in the field. Although David “DocSands” Sands, a very accomplished online poker player, is in 4th place and will likely be the biggest hurdle for Bansi.

Event #6: $5,000 NLHE Shootout

36 Players are returning for Day 2 of the $5k Shootout event, and almost all 36 are household poker names! Among the returning players are: James Akenhead, Dario Minieri, Neil Channing, John Duthie, Chad Brown, Tom Dwan, Chris Ferguson, Christian Harder, Blair Hinkle, Faraz Jaka, Chino Rheem, Eugene Katchalov, Justin Smith and Max Pescatori.

Dwan is searching for his first bracelet and will have to win his table again today, and then again tomorrow to capture his first piece of WSOP hardware.

Another storyline in the event is Heather Mercer who has the chance to be the first woman to capture a WSOP this year –there has been a lot of talk on just how many bracelets the females will win in 2010.

Event #7: $1,500 2-7 Triple Draw

The three day Triple Draw event attracted 291 hopefuls, most of whom are top pros – who are really the only players who regularly play the antiquated Draw game. Day 2 should leave us with a dozen or so competitors, and the event could have an even more recognizable final table than the Players Championship.
