Poker Host Review
Software
This is our favorite poker room layout. There’s no question about it; Prima does good work when it comes to good software. At first you might think the three-lobby system is a little excessive, but the more you use it, the more it grows will grow on you.
The only lobby we don’t care for is the graphical one. It doesn’t give you enough information in our opinion. The other two lobby views, however, are exceptional.
One view looks a lot like a traditional iPoker skin. On your left you have a windows-style drop down menu that makes it easy to select the game and stakes you want to play. Once you make your selection, your main screen fills with a list of tables and the statistics of each one. You’ll see how what percentage of players that go to the flop, the average pot size, and the number of hands played per hour. Everything you need to select a profitable table.
Our favorite view, however, has a slider bar at the top of it and the filter options right next to the slider bar. You can check the game you want to play, the limit you want to play, and how many seats you want at your table. Then you scale the bar to include the range of limits you want to see. It’s a very powerful filter tool.
Traffic and Game Variety
Poker Host gets plenty of traffic. With a little over 10,000 players, consider this a large mid-sized poker room. The nice thing about joining a poker room this large is that you’ll never have to wait to get into a game; even if you’re mult-tabling.
Of course, Texas Hold’em gets the majority of Poker Host’s traffic. Limit Hold’em games are plentiful in the low to mid limit ranges. You’ll find a spattering of tables available at the higher limits, but they’re usually severely shorthanded.
No Limit Texas Hold’em, however, has solid traffic all the way up to the $20/$10 limit games. Poker Host does offer higher limits, but be prepared to play shorthanded; maybe even heads up.
Even Pot Limit Hold’em sees some traffic at the lower limits.
Pot Limit Omaha players will also find an easy game at the low to mid limit ranges and there’s usually a low limit game of Omaha Hi/Lo going on as well.
In addition, Poker Host offers games in 7-Card Stud, 5-Card Stud, and 5-Card Draw. These rooms get a trickle of traffic and finding a table in these games is hit-or-miss at best.
Overall Poker Host has enough traffic for you to play whatever you want, whenever you want.
Tournaments
The tournament traffic at Poker Host is average. Most tournaments will have a couple hundred entrants with few tournaments ever approaching the 500 mark.
This is the perfect size for a tournament hall. The prizes aren’t so large that they attract the attention of online pros, but they’re large enough to matter to the average poker player. Poker Host is a great place to hone your tournament skills while making a little bit of money.
Softness of Games
Poker Host is not quite as fishy as most rooms of its size. You’ll still find tables with over 50% of the players going to the flop, but you’ll also find tables with 25% of the players going to the flop. And that’s at the low limits!
With proper table selection, however, the games at Poker Host are largely beatable.
Bonuses
The bonus at Poker Host is a mind-blowing 100% up to $2,000. You’ll have to earn 50,000 Loyalty Points to clear a bonus of that size, but the bonus is released incrementally so you’ll be able to make some extra money even if you can’t clear the whole bonus.
Poker Host has undergone a major transformation. This isn’t the same site as it once was; it’s much, much better. The combination of great software and killer bonuses make Poker Host a must-visit site for any online poker player.
